About two years ago, I decided it was time to direct myself toward a new path. After 29 years in the IT industry, it had become clear to me that I needed to head in a different direction. Having always had special needs in education and in life/family/community close to my heart, I investigated how I could move forth, toward that area. I found myself attending an “Introduction to Special Needs” course facilitated by Mairead over 10 weeks (Summer/Autumn 2015) I was blown away by her conviction to content, her ability to engage, and her dedication toward educating those of us who took the course. I was hooked! This was the course for me! And fortunately in January 2016 I was accepted onto the QQI course she was facilitating. Throughout this course I was educated, instructed and guided inspirationally within the QQI remit under her expert guidance. Move forward nine months and I found myself with a contract to put all I had learnt to the very best use in a wonderful facility. It was then that I realised I had made one of the best decisions of my professional life. I adore working with like minded people and I have since acquired a further understanding of what it means to be in an SEN environment. None of this would have been possible for me, without the expert tuition, personal interest, and support (ongoing) of Mairead. I am so grateful for having had such a wonderful tutor, mentor and a lovely lady to whom I continue to refer when I need advice. I simply couldn’t have done better! Maighread Curtin
I completed the special needs assisting course with Mairead in 2016. I found this course to be absolutely brilliant. I would highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in working in this area. Thanks to completing this course I am now working as an SNA in a local school. Anne Howell
As a mother of a child with SN i can truly say that Mairead not only is an excellent tutor but she truly believes what she teaches, she understands the needs of these children and goes out of her way to let us neurotypicals into the world of SN children , in their way of thinking, learning, feeling .How it is important to see the child as a individual with their own needs and way of learning. She is a strong believer in focusing on the ability of the child. IN my book this makes her an excellent tutor and advocate in teaching the next generation . Sarah Jane Reddin
I completed the QQI Level 5 SNA course with Mairead McHale in 2016. I was very nervous about returning to learning. However, I received a huge amount of encouragement from Mairéad. She really understood most of the students were returning to learning after many years. She offered lots of guidance to help us through the assignment writing and referencing process. She was so encouraging and was always giving feedback on our work which helped us greatly. I learned a great deal about strategies and approaches to support children with special educational needs. Mairead also did a session on writing CVs and interview skills which was very useful. I was lucky to get a job as an SNA after finishing the course. The knowledge I gained during the course is invaluable and it helps me every day in my role. I am thoroughly enjoying my new rewarding career as a SNA and I can’t recommend Mairead’s SNA course highly enough. Pamela Brunton.
